Welcome to the Village

Our new neighbors own what I suspect is the World's Largest Dog. Welcome to the neighborhood! If you should see the World's Largest Dog walking about the village (he's a St. Bernard) his name is Jefferson.

Be alert....

I just got this in my email... I'm stripping the homeowner's personal info, etc but here is the gist:
But I wanted to let you all know about some recent activity on Canby St. that reminds us all to be vigilant neighbors. Unfortunately in the house next to us police were called because of significant disturbances and ultimately we learned of the high likelihood that drugs are involved. The police are investigating and have been professional, responsive and a great comfort to us and our family. However, the situation is still unresolved. So I ask that if you see suspicious activities on Canby St (we're hust a few houses west of 35th) that you let the police know. The SW Crime Prevention Officer and guy following this most closely is Officer Mark Friedman 503-823-0234.
Among other notes, the homeowner sending this email mentions keeping your eyes open for a silver 2006 Dodge Charger which may be an Enterprise Rental Car which has not been returned.

The homeowner has positive things to say about her dealings with the Police Bureau and city operatives, particularly Maria Thi Mai, who is on Commissioner Adams' staff, but I didn't realize she was a nieghbor. Although, having types that I seem to think we may have stopped by her house last Halloween...

By the way... you do NOT want to get in a bike race against Maria.

Celebrity day at the school bus stop

So, Jr. V started school at Mapelwood yesterday. He's riding the bus in the mornings. This morning, as we were alwking to the stop, Mrs. V notices her friend Shawn Levy, who writes movie reviews for the Oregonian. Here's a link to his blog at Oregonlive. Shawn's also got quite a string of books and movies to his credit, but don't be fooled by IMDB, there are TWO Shawn Levy's in the world. "Our" Shawn has lived in several houses in the Village over the years, all just a few blocks from us, while maintaining what has appeared to be a quite successful writing career.
